The University of Denver Department of Media, Film and Journalism Studies (DU MFJS) is located in Mass Communications Building on the University of Denver campus at the corner of South Gaylord Street and East Harvard Avenue. The program, formally known as Mass Communications, converted to Media, Film and Journalism Studies in 2010. Programs include Strategic Communications, Media Studies, Film Studies and Production, Journalism, and Digital Media Studies. Strategic Communications emphasizes Public relations, communication campaigns, health communication, global and multicultural communication, media law and ethics, advertising and audience research. Media Studies focuses on contemporary communications in media, the history and future of media the industry, social, political, economic and cultural implications of the media process and content, and reading and analysis of media texts. Film Studies and Production students study film and digital video production, narrative, documentary and experimental styles, script/screenwriting, and film history and criticism. Finally, Digital Media Studies explores web and multimedia design, programming, digital video/audio, influence of digital media on individuals, and culture and society.

Estlow International Center for Journalism and New Media



In 2000, the Charlotte A. and Edward W. Estlow International Center for Journalism & New Media was established at the university. The center sponsors research projects, award programs, and outreach and education programs. The intent of these programs is to foster conversations among journalism students, professionals in the field, and members of the public, on the subject of the role of media in safeguarding democratic freedoms.
