History
In 1969, J. M. Ross opens a school in Flint, Michigan under the name Learning Foundations to provide after- school academic instruction to K-12 students. By 1971, Mr. Ross has opened six additional schools. The name of the company changes to Ross Learning, Inc., and the focus shifts to providing prevocational training services to adults. In 1973, Ross Learning, Inc. is purchased by Howard J. Hulsman, and the Ross organization begins its evolution into career training centers. A year later, Ross introduces selective medical career training in its schools. In 1976, Ross opens the more comprehensive instructional services of the Ross Medical Education Centers.
By 1984, Ross is operating nine schools under various names: five Ross Medical Education Centers, one Ross Learning Center, two Ross Business Institutes, and one Ross Technical Institute. By 1986, Ross grows to sixteen campuses, all of which operate as Ross Medical Education Center, Ross Business Institute, or Ross Technical Institute.
Between 1987 and 1989, Ross grows to 21 campuses total with 19 in Michigan and two in Florida. Between 1990 and 2000, Ross closes 9 campuses and acquires 2 campuses in Georgia for a total of 13 campuses in 3 states. All campuses operate under the name Ross Medical Education Center. In addition to closing campuses, Ross reduces program offerings to Medical Assistant.
In 2004, Howard J. Hulsman sells Ross Learning, Inc. with its then 14 campuses, to three officers of the corporation - Christine Ossenmacher, Paul Mitchell, and Richard Lockman.
In 2005, Paul Mitchell, Huron Capital Partners, LLC and minority investors form Ross Education, LLC and purchases the assets of Ross Learning, Inc. They begin to increase infrastructure. This includes extensive staff and management hiring and development.
By 2007, Ross adds a Medical Insurance Billing and Office Administration program to many of its campuses. This addition is followed closely by a Dental Assistant program in 2008. Between 2008 and 2010, Ross Education, LLC. moves all its schools into larger, brighter facilities, roughly 3 times their previous size. Ross closes its Florida and Georgia locations. Ross acquires the Institute of Medical and Dental Technology in Cincinnati, Ohio. Ross opens 2 more campuses in Ohio, 2 campuses in Indiana, and 4 more campuses in Michigan, for a total of 19 campuses. In 2010, funds operated by JLL Partners buy a majority interest in Ross Education, LLC.
In March 2012, Ross launched its Pharmacy Technician program in seven campuses.
It should be noted that Ross Medical Education Center has no affiliation with Ross University School of Medicine, a degree granting medical school in the Caribbean.
