Canterbury School of Florida is a private college preparatory school on two campuses in Saint Petersburg, Florida serving Pre-K3 to Grade 12. Founded in 1968, Canterbury School of Florida is co-educational, college preparatory, independent day school. It serves Pinellas County, Florida and the greater Tampa Bay area.
Campus
The Canterbury School of Florida is situated on two campuses in northeast St. Petersburg. The Knowlton Campus is also home to the Dollinger Center, the school's 483-seat theater used for school productions (for both campuses) and recitals. Knowlton Campus is also where the sports fields are located, as well as the Cousteau Center for Marine Studies (C.C.M.S.).,
The learning laboratory contains both classroom and laboratory space, state-of-the-art technology, a laptop lab, and an interactive SMART board. A kayak fleet, 23 foot Sea-Pro bay boat, and three aquarium touch tanks filled with crabs, sea stars, fish, shrimp, and tunicates are already inspiring an appreciation of the local environment. The newest addition to the growing Canterbury School community is the multi-million dollar building that broke ground on the Knowlton Campus in February 2010. This building will add classrooms, offices, a new media center and a huge technology lab.
Curriculum
Honors, Andvanced Honors, Advanced Placement courses are offered. Canterbury supports experiential learning, incorporating field trips, miniterms, community service and other hands-on activities into school life to enhance classroom instruction. It is a marine science based school, and is the first school to be a Custeau Divers partner
Extracurricular activities
Scouting and Coordinate Programs for Lower School Students
These after school activities have included dance, technology, soccer, science, drama, and sewing. Courses may range from one to eight weeks in length. There is an additional charge for these activities. Coordinate program classes are taught by independent instructors as well as Canterbury faculty and staff. Canterbury also hosts several scout troops for boys and girls.
Clubs and Activities for Middle and Upper School Students
There are more than 25 in-school clubs and activities offered to Middle and Upper School students at no cost. Some clubs include: Student Council, Chess Club, Gourmet Club, Thespian and Junior Thespian Troupes, iPad Medics, Model UN, RAD Runners, Book Club, SADD, Geography club, and ROV. Additionally, each grade (5-12) takes a class trip during the year.
ALL students have the opportunity to participate in after school plays and productions. ALL students in 6th grade or up, have opportunity to participate in after school athletic teams.
